Today was a backhanded victory for the Republic and the Rule of Law. Unsubstantiated allegations were not allowed to derail a Presidential appointment. However, despite all of the sword rattling and rhetoric on both sides, the vote came down on strict party lines. I am very impressed with the 2 senators that voted against their own parties and for their beliefs and own judgment, even though they essentially canceled each other out. I am glad that the opposition to this appointment was unable to succeed with the methods they chose to employ. Not because I agree with all of the stances of Kavanaugh, but because I love our Republic and the Rule of Law that allows it to stand. Could you imagine our country if this chain of events with this particular set of circumstances had succeeded? Everything would have ground to a halt. I am also of the belief that the opposition to Kavanaugh is worried that he will wield his lifetime appointment in the way that they would use it if they were in position to secure it. They would use it to force their beliefs and agenda on the country as a whole if given the chance and since that is how they would operate, that is how everyone will operate, thus Kavanaugh's confirmation assures an upcoming “war on women and those of alternative lifestyles"... no, it doesn't. Abortion will remain legal and individual rights will continue to be protected because the laws, as written, protect those items. Our country does not operate on a basis of majority rules, it operates on the rule of law, and while the current makeup of the court is more conservative, I don't believe that to be a bad thing because modern, conservative judges have been less concerned with legislating from the bench. Now then, can we talk about balancing the budget and firing the entirety of congress if they continue to refuse to do so?
