The article linked is a scathing attack on the Trump administration for allegedly trying to block children of undocumented immigrants from attending public schools. The effort was reviewed, but ultimately abandoned due to the fact that a Supreme Court decision in 1982 makes the denial illegal.
However, here is an excerpt from the article:
Ultimately, they abandoned the idea after being told repeatedly that any such effort ran afoul of a 1982 Supreme Court case guaranteeing access to public schools. But the consideration of denying hundreds of thousands of children access to education illustrates the breadth of the White House’s push to crack down on undocumented immigrants.
If you read that paragraph and it doesn't alarm you that there are hundreds of thousands of children of illegal immigrants already in the US that cannot be denied from using taxpayer funds due to a ruling from the Supreme Court, then you will never be able to understand why we have a huge budget deficit and how it will kill our republic. There are many examples of exactly this type of thing happening and we do have a choice. We can either make tough decisions for the good of the country, or we can continue to fund pipe dreams backed by emotions and not facts or evidence. The latter will result in the end of our republic when the creditors no longer allow extensions and we are called to pay back what we owe. When those tough decisions are made, then yes, those that are criminals will be the ones that suffer first as we apply the letters of our laws.
If you would like to support these folks that may fall on hard times due to these decisions necessary to protect our republic, then that is your choice and you are free to give of your money and of your time to support those people and causes that you believe in. However, the moment you use the government or law enforcement or any tax payer funded entity to force me to do the same . . . that is theft or extortion and it will be fought against.
I do not understand the need of people to have an idea of something that they want to support or enact, but to not be able to pay for it privately and thus force the government to fund it. Then the government does so and spends more than it take from the people. So your choices are these . . . take more from the people or run up a debt that will eventually cripple the country.
The true solution is this . . . live within your means.
We cannot continue to spend more money than we are taking in. I am of the belief that taxes are high enough as I disagree with several of the policies and expenditures that the government currently has in place. The government is wasteful and ineffective. If we privatized nearly everything the government is currently doing and got them out of the loop, everything would function better because the privatized solution would be subject to market forces and would adapt. Taxes should stay the same and spending should be DRASTICALLY cut. The cuts should start with items such as these shown in the article.
The people getting the benefit of these tax dollars are not citizens and are also not here legally. They are causing additional inefficiencies on the provided funding because of other inclusion laws in place that require public schools to accommodate items such as, lack of ability to speak English, inadequate access to meals or a host of other things that illegal, non-citizens are more likely to need than not to need. Thus, the millions of children of families that are doing things correctly, legally and to the best of their ability suffer at the inefficient, overcrowded, underfunded nature of our public schools because of this influx of hundreds of thousands of children of illegals who do not pay into the system to reap the benefits.
Public education, public health care, welfare programs, public housing programs, infrastructure funding, all of these facets can and are suffering because of additional drains on the systems from these sorts of things. So, when the government actually tries to increase the efficiency of one of the programs by cutting the dead weight dragging it down, they find out not only is it illegal to do, but they get publicly criticized for even thinking about doing it in the first place. Dragged through the mud for trying to deny education to hundreds of thousands of children. I say no, I say those hundreds of thousands of illegal children are diluting the educational experience of millions of citizens and those that went about arriving in the US in the right ways. They are a drain on our society and are impeding our way of life. They have been brought here because of the benefits that they know are available at no cost and that they will not have to pay into the pool of funds that provides them. It needs to stop. The waste needs to stop. The governmental officials trying to buy votes by promising "More FREE Stuff" needs to stop.
In the past we may have been able to afford to bring folks along even if they were illegal, but now it is a struggle just to keep up with our own citizenry's needs and the needs of those that have come here legally. It is not a hard decision, but it does require that we draw a line between THEM and US. Somehow, that has become a blurry, enigmatic thing. I cannot draw a line between THEM and US when it comes to citizens and legal immigrants versus illegal immigrants of all types. We must be tolerant of this criminal faction and allow them access to all the benefits that we get as taxpayers and citizens, even though they are neither.
However, if I attempt to say that there is no THEM and US in the search for jobs or equality or opportunity and that all citizens and legal residents have equal opportunity for pursuit of freedoms and happiness within the law, but no guarantee of equal outcomes, then what do I hear because I am a 40-something white male? I need to check my privilege. That there are definite differences that I experience because of my race and culture that others do not get the benefit of and to dismiss those things is ignorant, racist and if i insist on continuing to say so then I might as well sign up to be a Nazi.
Which is it? THEM and US, but only when it is useful to your agenda?
One of these years, we will all realize that there is an oligarchy in place and they are keeping us busy fighting with one another while they slowly bankrupt our country. The signs are there and they are getting impossible to ignore. Watch the national debt and notice how between now and the next election that neither side running will talk about balancing the budget and getting this country back on the right track to prosperity. One side will speak about how much stuff you can get for free from the government if you vote for them. The other side will say it is impossible to pay for what the first side is promising (and they are right) but at the same time will talk about how to spend more on defense or to keep bumping up the prices of consumer goods because of tariffs they say are necessary or they will even talk about cutting taxes with no talk of cutting spending. Then the debt will go higher and the republic will fail while we argue about what color skin we happen to have and what that means or when does a combination of organic cells actually constitute a human or how important it is to be able to touch your genitals to exactly the kind of other genitals you want (with consent, of course) without being judged or mocked for it. These are all hot buttons issues, but they are not the one that will destroy our country.
We need to cut spending and we need to leave taxes the same or maybe raise them a little at the same time. We do not need to expand or implement new programs and we need to cut back the ones we have . . . some drastically. This needs to be done at the federal, state and local levels and it should be noted that several state and local governments are doing a good job of this. But until it is systemic, we are on the path to ruin. We can debate what needs to be cut and where, I have no issue with that, but there must be cuts.
Those currently in place (both sides) will never agree to any of this, because closing the purses cuts into their power, for the ones that decide where and how the money is spent are the ones with the influence. If you take away the money, you take away their power and they will NEVER consent to it. So our job, as good voters is to keep voting them out until we get a group in place that will do what this country needs instead of catering to the whims of the easily manipulated masses and buying votes.
