I still feel this way. I rarely get burning mad about anything any more though. I was angry about a lot of things in this time period. I like this memory though. It lays out my core position well.

A week or so ago, the US Supreme Court opened the door for sports betting to be legalized outside of Nevada. I was driving yesterday and heard a national broadcaster on ESPN Radio say the following - "I'm all for legalized sports betting, but I want to know how the laws are going to be passed and what safeguards are going to be put in place so that people don't lose their houses or all of their savings or ruin their lives betting on sports."
To me, this is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard. I am still burning mad about it a full 24 hours later. None! You put no restrictions in place for such a thing. If there are people out there that can't make an adult choice to gamble or not to gamble, then they have to live with the consequences of their actions. Same with alcohol, same with drugs, same with food (my personal vice), same with the internet, same with video games, same with whatever.
We have to stop being a nation that requires that laws be passed to protect people from their poor choices, because it always ends up that those of us making good choices end up paying for those making the bad ones. Especially when the government gets involved in stringing up the safety nets. Consequences are real and bad choices are made all the time. Maybe if there were more hardships and object lessons out there, then people would be more apt to think ahead and weigh out their decisions like real adults do.
